Mandates

IPRO operates on a mandates basis and distributes only to rightsholders who mandate IPRO. IPRO holds mandates from members of the International Association of Scientific Technical and Medical Associations STM and indirectly through agreements with other Reproduction Rights Organisations (RROs), namely CCCCLACFC and VG Wort. Mandates to IPRO are non-exclusive.

Terms and conditions for the educational use of copyright protected material can be found on the
UvO website, which also includes the terms of indemnification granted to the users who have agreed to pay the copyright compensation fees to Stichting UvO. In respect of the event that IPRO were to receive royalty income from licensees for rightsholders which have not mandated it, it makes every reasonable effort to find the most efficient distribution mechanism for such rightsholders, either by way of a distribution to the rightsholder against an indemnification or, if appropriate, by distribution to the RRO organization in the country where the rightsholder is based. If such funds cannot be distributed for more than three years, they are dealt with in accordance with IPRO’s Repartition Rules.

In line with the IPRO repartition regulations, monies are distributed as fast as possible, often within 3 months of determining to whom the funds belong. On a normal basis, monies received are distributed to rightsholders within one year of receipt, including receipt of sufficient distribution data from the party remitting the funds. IPRO has at least one annual distribution to mandating rightsholders.
Where a rightsholder cannot be found, every reasonable effort is made to contact him or her.
